July 2011 Featured Kitchen Featured Kitchen, by Donna Aust
Finish:  Perimeter, Tuscanny; Island, custom stain
Doorstyle:  Stanford

This kitchen was designed and built for a couple living in New Jersey. Most of the cabinets go all the way up to a 9ft. high ceiling and are staggered to add interest to the upper cabinets. Most of the uppers are done in a glass mullion, and plain glass doors with interior lights. All cabinetry is done in the Stanford door style. The island in this kitchen is finished with a custom matched, distressed maple stain. This contrasts with the Tuscany paint used on the perimeter, which is also distressed. The island displays furniture toes to create the appearance that it is a mobile piece of furniture. There are also bookshelves in the narrow part of the island for extra storage.

The apron front farm sink is set-out to add some depth to that wall, and also to add decorative posts. The hood is embellished on each side with corbels and small pull-out spice racks/cabinets. There are also base spice racks on either side of the stove, which is deeper to accommodate posts. All appliances are paneled.

The Butler's Pantry is done in Matte Black paint with rub through and light distressing. All of the upper doors are Stanford door style. The mullion doors, with special glass, and the bead board back add to the rustic look of the hutch-style cabinet. The countertop is stained to accent the rub through.
