This beautiful cherry kitchen was remodeled in Virginia. Our Country French door was used on the perimeter cabinets in cherry (stained brown mahogany). It features some uniquely contrasting elements that give the kitchen more of a modern look, while still keeping some of the traditional aspects of a country kitchen. One of the first eye catching elements is the uniquely decorated copper farm sink with an apron front. The special upper glass door unit, above the sink, has finished flush bottoms and allows natural light to come into the kitchen above, through, and below the cabinets. The glass mullion doors let natural light illuminate the inside of the cabinets, where glassware, family heirlooms, and other decorative items may be displayed.
To the right of the glass unit is a section of bookshelves for all of the treasured cookbooks and recipes passed down through the generations. The interior is finished with adjustable shelves. Under the bookshelves, on the countertop, is a tambour door to hide small appliances, food, or whatever else one desires to store there.
On the very right side of the kitchen on the refrigerator wall is a desk that provides a comfortable work area for a laptop/computer/telephone. This area also includes a file drawer and roll-out-shelves for plenty of storage for paperwork or projects. Above the desk there is another area of glass mullion doors with upper lighting and glass shelves to use as storage or for another area for display, for example, great-grandmother's fine china.
A great contrasting element of this kitchen is island and hood color, which is different from the perimeter of the kitchen. The unique hood is another beautiful focal point, displaying a vertical bead board done in Tuscany paint with standard distressing. It is adorned with Enkeboll corbels and appliqué decorations. To the left of the stove is a tray divider, and to the right, a base pullout spice rack. All posts in the room are a Graber split onlay. Also, there are photo enameled tiles below the hood that adds to the artistry and country feeling of this kitchen.
The island is also done in the Tuscany paint, with a custom Chesapeake door style with custom paneling. It features a sitting area with stools, and two custom Graber bar brackets. To the left of the sitting area it has openings for storage baskets. To the right of the sitting area is a small sink that may be used to wash fruits and vegetables. This large island allows for a large work area, and is very diverse in its functionality. This kitchen is a warm, and inviting place for family and friends to gather in and enjoy.
